Monthly Insights at Harriss Jones Lawyers – March 2026

We’ve reached the end of another month at Harriss Jones Lawyers and as always, we’ve been busy helping our valued clients get through their key milestones of life. New home purchases, estate planning and handling the emotional process of deceased estates, we are thankful that our clients choose us for whatever they’re needing support with.

On 10 March, Kathryn attended the all-day family law event at Elouera Surf Life Saving Club. This year’s seminars included presentations from Senior Judicial Registrar Whitten of the Federal Circuit and Family Court, Megan Norris, Barrister of Culwulla Chambers, and Barristers Paul Guterres and Peter Fowler to discuss how to handle matters where neurodiversity is a factor. This great event closed with dinner at Sealevel.

Our conveyancers Annette and Sarah also had their own seminar for anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) in conveyancing. AML/CTF changes are almost here and with that there will be obligations on various sectors to ensure that any funds used to purchase certain goods and services have not been used to finance criminal activity. We will have more information soon on how this will affect our clients when engaging our services for matters such as purchasing a new home.

On 25 March, Kathryn and Melanie also attended a seminar hosted by InfoTrack on the AML/CTF reforms and how they will be implemented into our systems, how to manage the changes, and what to expect when using AML/CTF in new matters. It will soon be a requirement for all our staff to undertake AML/CTF checks with clients in addition to conducting Verification of Identity in some matters, particularly in relation to property matters. We will have more information shortly on how this will further protect our clients.

We’d also like to let you know (and remind you!) that the school holidays are upon us for the Easter holiday period! School holidays commence 3 April 2026 and end 17 April 2026. Our office will be closed from 5pm on Thursday 2 April 2026 for the Easter long weekend and will reopen Tuesday 7 April 2026. We also note that this year the NSW State Government has declared that Monday 27 April 2026 will be a public holiday for ANZAC day and our office will also be closed.

We’d also like to extend our congratulations to all our clients who have recently purchased property or sold and moved into new homes. It’s been a busy month for the conveyancing team as always! We are grateful for your trust and are always here to support you with your legal needs as you move forward.

Our team remains committed to providing high-quality legal services to all our clients. Whether you need assistance with a property transaction, will or business-related matter, we’re here to help.

We’d also love to hear from you! If you’ve worked with us recently, we’d appreciate your feedback. Feel free to leave a Google or Facebook review or drop us a note at admin@hjlaw.com.au. From all of us at Harriss Jones Lawyers, thank you for your continued support. We look forward to helping you navigate the legal landscape in the months ahead.
