Our Monthly Update: New Faces and a Special Milestone

This month brings some lovely news to share. We have a new lawyer join our team, a big birthday for the firm, and some extra training happening behind the scenes. Here is what has been going on at Harriss Jones Lawyers.

A warm welcome to Khajinder Kaur

We are delighted to welcome Khajinder Kaur to Harriss Jones Lawyers. Khajinder is our dedicated family law lawyer, and she is here to support you through separation, parenting arrangements, property settlements, and everything in between.

Family law matters are rarely easy. They often come at a hard time in your life. Khajinder brings care and a steady hand to every conversation, and she is looking forward to getting to know our clients and helping you find a way forward.

Celebrating 13 years in business

This month, we celebrate 13 years of helping families across the Sutherland Shire through life's big moments. From buying a first home, to writing a Will, to working through a separation, it has been an honour to stand beside our clients through it all.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us over the years. We would not be here without you, and we are looking forward to many more years of helping our community.

Collaborative Law

To complement her family law work, Khajinder is currently completing her training in Collaborative Law. This is a way of resolving family law disputes without going to court.

In a Collaborative Law process, you, your former partner, and both of your lawyers agree from the start to work together in a series of meetings. The goal is to sort out arrangements for children, property, and finances in a respectful way, with everyone at the table rather than in front of a judge.

This can be a gentler path for families who want to keep talking and avoid the stress of a courtroom. We are proud that Khajinder is building this extra skill, and we will share more once her training is complete.

Kathryn Harriss is also qualified to practice in Collaborative Law, in the area of Wills and estate matters. This means we can offer the same respectful, everyone-at-the-table approach to families working through estate disputes, not just separations.

St George Sutherland Law Society

This month, Melanie, Kathryn, and Khajinder will be attending our local St George Sutherland Law Society meeting, a local group that brings together lawyers from across our area. Robert Benjamin AC KC will be delivering a speech on legal writing at the event.

Both Melanie and Kathryn are committee members of the Society. It is a great way for us to stay connected with other local lawyers and keep learning, so we can keep bringing you the best possible advice.
