Monthly Insights at Harriss Jones Lawyers - May

As one client has raised with us this month, the year has gone so quickly! We’re at the end of May and we are coming up the end of financial year. Here’s the latest on what’s been happening at Harriss Jones Lawyers this past month.

If you’re looking for advice around planning law, our solicitor Seth has been doing monthly seminars with the Planning Institute of Australia. As a member of the PIA, Seth has had access to a range of law-focused planning seminars and has recently completed seminars on the changes to the State Governments low and mid-rise housing policy, and a seminar exploring the legal limits of Development Control Plans and how council may apply them in development applications. Seth is ready to assist you with whatever challenges you’re facing getting your development over NSW planning hurdles.

Our conveyancer, Sarah, has also been completing various seminars with the Australian Institute of Conveyancers on the importance of due diligence and managing the risks when assisting clients in purchasing residential and commercial property. Sarah also recently completed a seminar with the State Government about the Principal Place of Residence Land Tax Exemption. This seminar discussed the exemptions application and how to ensure a client is eligible for the exemption.

Melanie, Kathryn and Seth have recently completed a seminar refreshing their skills on ensuring that they are clear on the ethical boundaries and conflicts that can arise in the client intake process. Often times people will book their parents in for estate planning, but it is important to understand that even if the child is pushing the parent to come in and redo their estate documents, or plan new ones, that the person who is the client is not the child, and they cannot give instructions.

Melanie has also recently attended a seminar on mortgages and leases to refresh her skills and keep up to date with changes and updates in this area. Attending these seminars ensures we can always provide you as our client the best possible advice when you are moving into the next milestone of your life. Melanie is ready to assist you with advice you may be required to obtain in the event you are going guarantor on a loan or obtaining a mortgage. This is a complex area of law, and we are always ensuring we understand our obligations to you through completing these seminars.

Harriss Jones Lawyers is also proud to have sponsored the Oyster Bay Public Schools annual Oyster Bay Arts & Crafts Festival for another year. This great event is one of the many ways we are able to give back to a community that trusts us with their life milestones. We also heard the school raised enough money to slime their principal! Well done and we can’t wait for what they bring for next year! Scroll down to see our principals Kathryn and Melanie at the opening ceremony on Friday night!

We’d also like to extend our congratulations to all our clients who have recently purchased property or sold and moved into new homes. Our conveyancing team is hard at work as always, ensuring our clients have a smooth experience in buying or selling. We are grateful for your trust and are always here to support you with your legal needs as you move forward in life.

Our team remains committed to providing high-quality legal services to all our clients. Whether you need assistance with a property transaction, will or business-related matter, we’re here to help.

We’d also love to hear from you! If you’ve worked with us recently, we’d appreciate your feedback. Feel free to leave a Google or Facebook review or drop us a note at admin@hjlaw.com.au.
